Awaken

(Historical non-fiction)

Once upon a time, thousands of years ago, there was an area of land with a family settled there. There was a man, strong in a fresh world, and his wife with a son soon to come. The family needed food to survive, as all humans do. So the father went outside their hut and came to a land worked many times by his father and his fathers before him. He plowed it with his own made tools, and sowed it with precious seed gathered carefully from plants in the surrounding region. He worked long and hard until he had plowed and sowed a full days work, about half an acre. With an hour until sundown he drew back from the field, and coming to a large boulder he sat down and looked over the field and the land beyond.

As he sat there he pondered the meaning of life (for there wasn't much else to think about in a fresh, new world). He thought about what his father had told him about life. His father, Methuselah, had told him about God, how he was all powerful, and had created all the earth. But the man named Lamech was doubtful; he pondered these words greatly. His father told him that you could call and see this God, until a darkness fell over the land like a screen fixed to one's eyes, because the first two people on the earth created by God, dared to stand against him. "Where is he now?" thought Lamech, looking up into the sky where the first stars began to shine brightly as the sun waned on the horizon of the earth. "Where is he now?"...

Darkness fell on the face of the earth. The sun slipped from its hold. The man fell covering his face, an unnatural silence grew. "I AM... your God. Your people sinned, but I have a plan. I will be with you always, you will need to watch and listen, there will be a day where I shake the earth in mercy, darkness will fall once more as you see here. But until then, follow my laws in accordance of Methuselah, your father's teachings of me. Uncovering his eyes with his hands and coming to kneel, he found the sun fading and the stars shining, growing brightly. Quickly he went home and went to sleep disturbed and utterly astounded, for what was unseen had been seen, what was silent had answered. Truly there was a God in heaven.

In the next weeks his wife gave birth to a new son, one that would continue life on the earth to pass it down to many generations, Noah. Lamech raised Noah in the understanding of God according to the teaching of his father and his fathers before him to the beginning of time. Other children were born to his parents, people came and grew many around him. Then one day his father Lamech, son of Methuselah, passed away from the face of the earth.

Life passed on in front of him, he grew up into a man, found a wife and settled in the land near his father's old field. He worked there many days, then one day a voice sounded as he stood, bent over his tool in the middle of the field. "Noah, I have determined to make an end of all flesh, for the earth is filled with violence through them. Behold, I will destroy them with the earth, make yourself an ark of gopher wood, make rooms in the ark, and cover it inside and out with pitch. This is how you are to make it: the length of the ark 300 cubits, its breadth 50 cubits, and its height 30 cubits. Make a roof for the ark, and finish it to a cubit above, and set the door of the ark in its side. Make it with lower, second, and third decks. For behold, I will bring a flood of waters upon the earth to destroy all flesh in which is the breath of life under heaven. Everything that is on the earth shall die, but I will establish my covenant with you, and you shall come into the ark, you, your sons, your wife, and your sons' wives with you. And of every living thing of all flesh, you shall bring two of every sort into the ark to keep them alive with you, they shall be male and female. Of the birds according to their kinds, and of the animals according to their kinds, of every creeping thing of the ground, according to its kind, two of every sort shall come in to you to keep them alive. Also take with you every sort of food that is eaten, and store it up, it shall serve as food for you and for them.” So Noah did this with his sons; he did all that God commanded him. (Genesis 6:13-22 Esv Bible) Standing in his faith of a God unseen in a world of 4,000 people who had forgotten the name of the LORD God on all the the face of the earth.

Many wondered and marveled, and came from the valleys and hillsides to jeer or stare, mock or wonder at the sight of such a structure. Many as well asked the reason for this strange creation, but none believed the words of God that had been spoken to Noah. The name of the Lord God had been forgotten on the face of the earth. Then after 60 years of labour the ark stood tall, all the peoples around were amazed, for this was the first of its kind in all the earth to this day. Then as the Lord had commanded Noah, he and his sons gathered seeds and fruit from all around the country to feed the animals that they would provide shelter for on the ark. As soon as they had done this, animals came from all the forests, mountains, skies, and plains and gathered together in pairs inside the ark. Then one day all the clouds darkened, Noah, his wife, his sons, and their wives entered the ark. The rain burst forth, and fountains broke up from the earth carrying the man Noah and the soon to be only survivors on the face of the earth.

Such Faith had Noah son of Lamech son of Methuselah when all the world did not believe him that four and a half thousand years later the faith of a man who had seen an God unseen and heard a God silent until his call of obedience inspired a little boy to have the same faith. His name was Hans Luther, then years later when he had a son he passed these truths onto him, his name was Martin. He grew up in the Catholic faith in his birth country, Germany. One day he discovered the truths of the Catholic church were far from what the Bible, God said about himself and his people that he had created. So for the first time Martin Luther stood for his faith in an unseen God in front of the 78 million people that had forgotten the name of God on the face of the earth.

Many people have heard of Noah and Martin Luther, who are known for their faith in a God unseen among men. 2019, 8 billion people over all the face of the earth, in a world that has forgotten the name of God, a screen over all the nations of men, but through Noah's testimony of God, and Martin's awakening of the faith, it is still possible to change the lives of many. God still lives, so who will put their faith in him to awaken their nation with his help? Noah vs. 4,000, Martin Luther vs. 78,000,000, you vs. 8,000,000,000.
